I come from a family of majority women. I have been taught to be strong and independent from my great-grandmother, grandmother, aunt, and most importantly, my mom, Hedy Esfahanian.
Front: My grandmother, Homa. Second row from the left: My aunt, Haleh and my mom, Hedy.
My mom has been on every journey with me. She’s easily one of my best friends. As much as I am her fan, she is mine.
One of my favorite stories to tell is when my mom and I toured UNC. We were both so excited about the tour and we were in awe about the beauty of the school. We were joking during the entirety of the tour, not expecting for me to get in.
When I got into my first college, my mom and I jumped up and down in the kitchen crying. I wasn’t with her when I got into UNC, but she was (of course) my first call. She has supported me throughout everything, especially my decision to come to UNC.
My mom and I have adventured my entire life together. I have seen her compassion for others my entire life. She is who I want to be.
My mom is my personal hero. Her perseverance and strength are just a few reasons why I find her so admirable.
